The Shapes Got Dressed

Six little shapes. A few finishing touches. Some surprising new looks.

One by one, six colorful shapes arrive, each ready to become something new.

A red circle puts on a little green top and becomes a tomato. A blue square gets a roof, windows, and a door. A triangle grows a trunk, and a rectangle discovers that wheels can take it places.

With simple movements, playful narration, and familiar objects, The Shapes Got Dressed invites learners to watch, wonder, and discover what each shape will become.

And then there's Star, who decides it's already dressed perfectly.

What will this shape become?

The Shapes Got Dressed is an animated Glow Story built around a simple idea: familiar objects can emerge from basic shapes.

Each character begins as one clear, colorful shape. Then, piece by piece, something changes.

A stem appears. A roof drops into place. Wheels arrive. A nest settles beneath an oval.

The shapes move, transform, and announce what they've become.

The story uses repetition and carefully timed movement to help learners notice individual shapes, follow changes, and recognize the completed objects.

It's a playful introduction to shapes, but also an opportunity to practice looking, attending to movement, and connecting simple visual forms with familiar things.

Everybody gets dressed... almost.

Circle becomes Tomato

A bright red circle rolls in. Add a little green stem—PLOP!—and suddenly it's a tomato.

Square becomes House

A blue square gets a roof, a door, and two little windows. Now it looks like a house.

Triangle becomes Tree

A green triangle meets a brown trunk and stands tall as a tree.

Rectangle becomes Bus

A yellow rectangle gets wheels and windows. BEEP! BEEP! It's ready to go.

Oval becomes Egg

A white oval finds a cozy nest and settles into place.

Star stays Star

Star thinks about dressing up, twinkles a few times, and decides it looks just fine already.

At the end, all six characters return together to celebrate their new looks.

Practice

Watch the Shapes Change

In Practice, learners can explore the shapes and their transformations individually.

Each shape appears clearly against a black background, giving the learner time to notice it before the new parts arrive.

The simple, predictable sequence offers opportunities to watch movement, follow changes, and recognize the finished object.

Everybody Gets Dressed

Enjoy the complete animated story with narration, captions, simple sound effects, and carefully timed transformations.

Each shape has its own little moment, and the complete cast returns for a playful finale.

Story pacing and visual presentation can be adjusted to suit the learner.

Start with a shape. Build a whole world.

Not every learner needs the same amount of visual information.

The Shapes Got Dressed offers two visual presentations, allowing adults to choose the level of detail that best suits the learner.

The simpler Anchor Symbol presentation emphasizes clear geometric forms against black.

The Storybook World presentation uses more complete, recognizable pictures and allows the surrounding environment to become part of the story.

An adjustable background complexity setting adds another layer of flexibility, from an isolated object on black to a richer illustrated scene.

The learner can experience the same transformation with different amounts of visual information.

The house alone on a plain black background with the caption: A roof on top. A door below. Two little windows… There we go!
Simple presentation — the house stands alone against black.
The same house in a night-time neighborhood with purple-roofed houses, green grass and a brown fence, captioned: Look at me! I'm a HOUSE!
More background detail — the same house becomes part of a neighborhood.

The house stays the focus while the background changes around it.

Watch the little changes.

The animations in The Shapes Got Dressed are deliberately simple.

A circle rolls into place. A stem drops down. A triangle meets a trunk. Wheels appear beneath a rectangle.

Each movement contributes to the transformation rather than simply decorating the screen.

The learner has an opportunity to follow a moving shape, notice a new part appearing, and see how the completed object takes form.

Predictable sequencing and adjustable pacing allow adults to provide additional time for looking and responding.

  • Clear starting shapes — Bright colors and recognizable geometric forms provide a consistent starting point.
  • Purposeful movement — Each animation shows a meaningful change, so movement helps tell the story.
  • Predictable sequence — Every shape follows the same pattern: arrive, get dressed, announce what it has become.
  • Adjustable pacing — Adults can slow the story down to give more time for looking and responding.
