Giggle Baby
Four little touches. One very happy baby.
Someone is waiting to laugh!
Giggle Baby is a playful, four-touch cause-and-effect experience where a sleepy baby gradually wakes up, smiles, giggles, and bursts into laughter.
Each touch advances the little story. There's no complicated task, no wrong answer, and no need for precise touching. Just look, touch, wait, and enjoy what happens next.
Part of the Build It collection, Giggle Baby turns a few simple interactions into a happy little experience worth sharing.

Peek Inside
Can you make Baby giggle?

One touch, one little change. Keep going and see what happens when Baby starts to laugh!
How it works
Giggle Baby follows a simple, predictable four-touch sequence.
Each touch advances the baby's expression until the happy ending. The completed expression remains visible briefly before the activity automatically resets for another turn.
Learners can touch anywhere on the screen. Precise targeting is not required.
The predictable sequence creates opportunities for anticipation, cause-and-effect exploration, and purposeful interaction.
Four ways to see the same story
Giggle Baby includes four visual support levels. The story remains the same, but the way it looks changes.
- Glow: A simple, high-contrast face on a dark background with minimal detail.
- Cartoon: A bright, playful cartoon face with clear expressions.
- Illustrated: A more detailed, friendly illustration.
- Smiling: A realistic baby photograph showing changing facial expressions.
These options allow teachers and caregivers to experiment with different amounts of visual detail while keeping the experience familiar and predictable.

What learners can explore
Giggle Baby offers opportunities for:
- Visual attention and noticing changes in a face
- Early cause-and-effect understanding
- Anticipation and predictable sequences
- Exploring facial expressions
- Purposeful touching and interaction
- Shared smiles, laughter, and enjoyment
The goal isn't to test recognition or require a particular response. It's to make participation simple and enjoyable.
Why I made it
Sometimes the simplest interactions are the most enjoyable.
A baby's smile is something nearly everyone recognizes, and laughter has a wonderful way of inviting other people to join in.
I wanted to create an activity where a learner could make something delightful happen with very little effort. One touch brings a change. Another brings a smile. And before long, somebody is giggling.
The four-touch sequence gives the experience a predictable beginning, middle, and end. Different visual presentations make it possible to explore the same little story in different ways.
And perhaps most importantly, it creates an opportunity for two people to enjoy something together.
Sometimes that's enough. Especially when somebody starts laughing.
Who it's for
Giggle Baby was created with young learners, including children with cerebral visual impairment (CVI), visual impairments, and complex learning needs, in mind.
It may be particularly enjoyable for learners who benefit from simple cause-and-effect activities, large visual targets, predictable interactions, and reduced visual complexity.
It can also be enjoyed by other young children and shared with parents, teachers, therapists, and caregivers.
